Paul Caplat

Paul Caplat

Paul is a researcher who develops methods to understand and predict how species respond to a rapidly changing world, where rising temperatures, shifting land use, and species introductions are reshaping ecosystems.

He combines data analysis and ecological modelling to explore how species’ life histories interact with environmental conditions and human interventions, producing insights into large-scale ecological patterns. While his work has a strong theoretical foundation, it is applied in nature, providing tools to better understand, predict, and manage the ecological impacts of global change.

Paul’s background in agronomy (AgroSup Montpellier, France) and extensive experience working in managed forests across Canada, New Zealand, and Sweden have given him practical and interdisciplinary expertise highly relevant to the Climate+ Co-Centre. Within the Co-Centre, he contributes to Platform 2, focusing on predicting vegetation change and integrating knowledge of land use with work led by climate scientists and hydrologists.
